South Darfur is shinning again.

6.5 Million Acres to be Cultivated in South Darfur

Khartoum – South Darfur Minister of Agriculture, Hafiz Abu Baker, said an area amounting to 6.5 million acres will be cultivated this year in South Darfur localities.
Speaking to Sudan Vision, Abu Baker said 90% of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) began to return voluntarily for seasonal cultivation. Comparatively speaking, 90% is high, he said.
Abu Baker added that the state is determined to provide sufficient seeds to farmers to grow groundnuts, millet and sorghum across localities. All preparations have been finalized after the needed machineries were provided to farmers for ploughing, he said.
The Minister said a successful season is expected in the state because of the heavy rains witnessed by the area recently which also means the life of the local residents will be improved.
Given its vast and rich lands as well as heavy rains, South Darfur has become a major producer of vegetables, fruits, millet, legumes and groundnuts, he said.
