Romania Supports Peace and Development in Sudan
Khartoum - Romania supports peace and development in Sudan and has made steps to reinforce bilateral relations, said the Romanian Charge D'affaires in Sudan Dr. Dragos Serbanescu.
In a visit to Sudan Vision where he was received by Saif Addeen Al-Bashir, Editor-in-chief, Dr. Serbanescu said a meeting between Sudan and Romania on the deputy foreign minister level is being organized and is supposed to take place in Romania next year.
On occasion of Romania celebrating its 95th National Day on December 1st, the diplomat said he'd like to wish the people of Sudan a peaceful future.
"Romania is united and enjoys a stable political and economic system and it is now celebrating 95 years of being a country united by the same culture, concepts, and principles." the Charge D'affaires added.
He went on to affirm that Romania, as an individual country and as part of the European Union (EU), supports the peace process in Sudan.
Among the efforts to further development in Sudan, Romania is now considering a new bilateral cultural agreement, including scholarship grants.
"Yearly, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers 85 scholarships to all non EU countries, including, of course, Sudan." Dr. Serbanescu said and went on to explain that the details and the steps of applying for the scholarships have been sent by the Romanian foreign ministry to its Sudanese counterpart and are now available at the Sudanese Ministry of Higher Education.
Commenting on the diplomat's remarks, Saif Aldin Al-Bashir said Sudan is fully committed to the peace building process and "is one of the few countries in the world which actually call on rebels to join the peace process as opposed to the case where rebels call on the international community to pressure their governments to engage in talks."
The chief editor called on the European diplomat to get the message across that it is necessary for European countries to turn away rebels so as to help reinforce the peace process in Sudan.
Dr. Serbanescu said the EU is in favor of a peaceful solution in Sudan and that Romania seeks to build on, and re-launch, the strong cultural and economic relations between Sudan and Romania.
"The European Union has reiterated good will towards Sudan on several occasions and supports the efforts to end conflict, promote reconciliation, and pursue peace." continued the Romanian diplomat.
It is worth mentioning that Romania is, for the first time, taking part in the 5th round of the European Film Festival in Khartoum. The Romanian Film, titled "Morgen" by Marian Cisan, has won four awards at Locarno Film Festival in 2010.
"Romania's participation in the 5th festival aims to promote cultural exchanges." the Charge D'affaires said and invited all to attend the screening of the rest of European films in the remaining period until November 28th, and the screening of the Romanian film, Morgen, on Tuesday at the British Council, Khartoum.
